FOIA Request to City of Georgetown Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.
In our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chambana Sun have recently submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140).
The request, which was sent to the City of Georgetown, seeks information regarding all parking violations currently unpaid within the city. Specifically, we asked for a list that includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due.
As an integral part of our mission to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential. We believe that as a media organization actively involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
We await a response from the City of Georgetown and will continue our efforts in ensuring government transparency and accountability.
