A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Danville City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at Chambana Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, specifically asked for a list of all council members with the following details: Name, Title, Year Appointed, Term (2 or 4 years), and Term Expire Date. We requested that this information be provided in an electronic format for ease of use and dissemination.
As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Danville City Council regarding this request. As always, our aim is to provide accurate and timely information about local government activities to our readership.
