A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Urbana concerning unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. The request was made by Chambana Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we asked for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid. This includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as a media professional disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We eagerly await the response from the City Of Urbana as we continue our mission of delivering comprehensive local government news coverage.
