A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Georgetown City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at Chambana Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we asked for a list of all council members with specific details. The requested information includes each member's name, title, year appointed, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date. This data is essential for our reporting as it allows us to keep the public informed about their local government representatives.
As a media organization, we are deeply involved in gathering and disseminating news to the public. Access to public records such as these is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
