A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Danville, Illinois, regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. The request was made by us at Chambana Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, are for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid. This includes details such as the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when the violation occurred, and the total amount due.
As part of our commitment to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe that access to these public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information to the public and promoting transparency in local government affairs, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the City of Danville and will continue our work in keeping citizens informed about local government actions and accountability.
