Illinois swim team set for first road competition at Southern Illinois

The Illinois Swim and Dive team is preparing for their first away meet of the season in Carbondale, Illinois. They will face off against Southern Illinois and Illinois State on Friday, November 1, at 2 p.m. CT at Shea Natatorium.

The Fighting Illini are coming off a successful performance at the House of Paign Invite, where they secured victories over Vanderbilt (232-101) and Indiana State (250.5-135.5) on October 25 and 26. Freshman Chloe Diner excelled by winning gold in four events: the 50 breaststroke super final (29.39), the 100 butterfly (55.40), the 100 breaststroke (1:02.25), and the 200 breaststroke (2:17:57). Senior Sydney Stoll also contributed significantly with wins in the 50 butterfly super final (25.04), the 100 butterfly super final (1:03.82), and the 200 freestyle (1:50.12).

In diving, sophomores Dani O'Kelly and Elle Crisostomo dominated, winning gold in the one-meter dive with scores of 262.05 and in the three-meter dive with scores of 260.25 respectively.

Southern Illinois enters this meet with a strong record of three wins this season without any losses. Their victories include a decisive win against McKendree on October 2 with a score of 230-60, followed by a win against Missouri State on October 4 by a margin of 246-107, and most recently defeating UIC on October 26 with a score of 202-96.

Illinois State has faced challenges this season with two losses so far. They were defeated by Indiana State on October 4 with a score of 213.5-86.5 and lost again during a dual meet against Ohio on October 18 and19 by a combined score of273-139.
