Illinois swim team leads after first day at House of Paign Invite

The Illinois swim and dive team completed the first day of the House of Paign Invite at the ARC Pool in Champaign, Illinois. Freshman Chloe Diner achieved two top-10 program marks for the season, securing a win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.25, marking the fourth-fastest in school history. She also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.40, ranking as the tenth-fastest.

Illinois currently leads Vanderbilt with a score of 99-27 and Indiana State with 90-39 after day one.

In the day's events, Illinois secured the top two positions in the 200 medley relay. The A team consisting of freshmen Sophia Paduano and Kayla Duran, senior Logan Kuehne, and freshman Isabella Wilhelm won gold with a time of 1:42.67. The B team finished closely behind to take silver.

Kayla Duran triumphed in the all-or-nothing 100 breaststroke super final with a time of 1:03.82. Sydney Stoll claimed victory in the 100 butterfly super final clocking at 55.63.

Sophomore Liv Dorshorst won her first race this season in the 1000 freestyle event with a time of 10:17.26. Freshman Maggie Adler also celebrated her first win in the 100 freestyle event, finishing at 52.43.

Junior Sara Jass secured second place in the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 1:04.81 while Paduano earned silver and Suvana Baskar took bronze in the 100 backstroke event.

The day's events concluded with Bludgen, Jass, Adler, and Wilhelm's second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

In diving events, sophomore divers from Illinois swept all top-four positions in the one-meter dive competition. Dani O'Kelly placed first scoring 262.05 followed by Bethany Mercer at second place scoring 258.60.

Chloe Diner’s performances marked significant achievements for Illinois as she registered top-10 program times in both her events.

The Orange and Blue will return for more competitions on October 26th for day two of the House of Paign Invite starting at 11 a.m CT.
