The Illinois swim and dive team concluded its final home meet of the 2023-24 season on January 27 at the ARC Pool in Champaign, Illinois. The Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the Fighting Illini with a score of 169-131.
The event began with a new pool record in the 200 medley relay. The team comprising junior Sydney Stoll, freshman Kylee Sessions, junior Logan Kuehne, and senior Lily Olson achieved a time of 1:41.64.
Sophomore Sara Jass also set a pool record with her winning time of 2:00.60 in the 200 IM. Earlier in the meet, she swam the eighth-fastest 100 breaststroke (1:02.95), securing third place in that event. Jass later claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.12.
Sydney Stoll went on to win the 200 freestyle with a personal best of 1:48.72, which ranks as the seventh-fastest time in school history. Junior Suvana Baskar won the 100 backstroke (54.48), while junior Logan Kuehne took first place in the 50 freestyle (23.62). Laurel Bludgen rounded out Illinois' victories by winning the 100 freestyle (51.33).
In relay events, Olson, Bludgen, Kuehne, and freshman Maggie Adler secured second place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.44.
On diving boards, senior Taylor Michael finished fourth on three-meter boards (291.38), followed by freshman Dani O'Kelly who achieved a personal best and NCAA B cut score of 285.60 for fifth place. On one-meter boards, O'Kelly placed fourth (266.78) while Michael was fifth (259.13).
The Fighting Illini will next compete at the Louisville Invite on February 15-16 in Louisville, Kentucky.
