The Illinois swim and dive team concluded the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana, on February 24. The event saw the 400 freestyle relay team, consisting of Sydney Stoll, Logan Kuehne, Lily Olson, and Laurel Bludgen, achieve the program's second-fastest time at 3:21.15, securing a 10th place finish.
Sophomore Sara Jass made notable contributions by placing third in the 200 breaststroke B finals with a time of 2:13.31 and scoring a total of 19 points for Illinois. She led individual Illini scorers during the championship. Sydney Stoll also delivered a strong performance in the time trials with a sixth-fastest 100 freestyle clocking in at 50.16.
In platform diving, freshman Bethany Mercer scored two points with her 23rd place finish (189.60), marking her as the first Illinois diver to score on the tower since Ling Kuhn's performance in 2019.
Illinois finished twelfth overall in team scores with a total of 204 points. Indiana topped the rankings with 1,359 points.
Key performances included:
- Second fastest program mark by the 400 freestyle relay team.
- Sixth fastest program mark by Sydney Stoll in the 100 freestyle.
- Personal bests from several swimmers including Sydney Stoll (50.16) and Logan Kuehne (50.79) in the 100 freestyle.
The Illini aquatics team will return to competition from March 14-16 for NCAA Diving Zones and NIC Championships.
