The Illinois swim and dive teams concluded the second day of their season finales on March 15, with several notable performances.
In Ocala, sophomore Sara Jass achieved fourth place in the 400 IM finals with a time of 4:15.38, improving her qualifying time by nearly three seconds. Junior Sydney Stoll also reached the night finals, securing fifth place in the 200 freestyle at 1:47.79, which was an improvement from her prelims time.
The team’s 200 medley relay squad, consisting of Stoll, freshman Gwen Bakker, junior Logan Kuehne, and senior Laurel Bludgen finished eighth with a time of 1:40.60. Bakker also tied for eighth in the program's record book during the morning prelims in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.95.
The Illinois team’s performance included an eighth-place finish overall among ten teams with a score of 205 points. Akron led the standings with a total score of 400 points.
Meanwhile, at the NCAA Diving Zones in Louisville, Dani O'Kelly led Illinois divers by placing 29th on the three-meter springboards with a score of 242.50. Freshman Matilda Garcia followed in 36th place scoring 233.20 and senior Taylor Michael placed 39th scoring 228.05.
Logan Kuehne set one of Illinois’ top-10 program marks by clocking a personal best in the 100 IM at 56.94 during time trials.
The Illinois aquatics team will continue to compete on March 16 for both diving zones and NIC Championships events.
