Big Ten honors 78 Illinois student-athletes for academic excellence

The Big Ten Conference has announced the names of student-athletes who have been selected for the Academic All-Big Ten team for winter sports. The recognition was given to those who meet the criteria of being in at least their second academic year and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Seventy-eight student-athletes from Illinois were acknowledged across six winter sports programs. In men's basketball, honorees included Luke Goode (Jr., Business Finance), AJ Redd (So., Business), and Niccolo Moretti (So., Recreation, Sport, and Tourism). For women's basketball, Kendall Bostic (Gr.edM: Special Education), Genesis Bryant (Sr., Communications), Makira Cook (Sr., Community Health), Samantha Dewey (So., Undeclared), Camille Jackson (So., Undeclared), Adalia McKenzie (Jr., Recreation, Sport, and Tourism), Jada Peebles (Gr.M.S. Animal Sciences), and Kam'Ren Rhodes (So., Kinesiology) were recognized.

In men's gymnastics, Ashton Anaya (Sr., Information Sciences) and Ethan Boder (Sr., Nuclear, Plasma, Radiological Engineering) were among those honored. Women's gymnastics had honorees such as Alea Byrne (So., Kinesiology) and Kaitlyn Ewald (Sr., Kinesiology).

Swimming and diving saw numerous students recognized including Suvana Baskar (Jr., Psychology) and Lauren Beard (Sr., Atmospheric Sciences). Lastly, in wrestling, Brian Beers (So., Computer Science) and Joey Braunagel (Jr., Recreation, Sport, and Tourism) were among the awardees.

The announcement highlights the academic achievements of these athletes alongside their sporting commitments.
