The Illinois men's track and field team participated in the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 5, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon. Freshman Cody Johnston made history by becoming the first Illinois freshman to earn All-America honors in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.52m (18-1 1/4), securing fifth place.
Senior Tyler Sudduth achieved his first outdoor All-America honors in the shot put with a throw of 19.67m (64-6 1/2), placing seventh. He is the fifth Illini man to score in this event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and the first this century to receive All-American status. Jeff Teach was the last Illini male shot putter to reach the podium in 1995, also placing seventh.
Sudduth concludes his career with Illinois as an All-American in both weight throw (2023) and shot put. He won the weight throw Big Ten title indoors during the 2024 season and holds the program record at 23.14m (75-11).
Senior Aiden Ouimet is currently ranked 13th after completing five events of his decathlon, accumulating 3,937 points. His best performance was sixth place in the long jump with a distance of 7.24m (23-9), earning him 871 points.
Senior Robert Williams finished 19th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.99 seconds. Over his collegiate career, he qualified for two NCAA Outdoor Championships and set a school record as part of an indoor relay team that claimed a Big Ten title.
Looking ahead, Illinois' No. 11 women's team will begin their competition on June 6, while Ouimet continues his decathlon events starting at 11:30 a.m., followed by field events at 3 p.m., and track events at 5:30 p.m., all available for viewing on ESPN2.
