Illinois' tennis team began their campaign at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic with a decisive 4-0 victory over Tulsa, following a delayed start due to rain. This win marked Illinois' fifth consecutive victory, bringing their season record to 8-2 and improving their neutral match performance to 3-1. Meanwhile, Tulsa's record fell to 5-6.
In doubles action, McKenna Schaefbauer and Violeta Martinez secured a swift 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Despite Tulsa claiming a win at No. 3 doubles, Megan Heuser and Alice Xu clinched the doubles point for Illinois by overcoming Tulsa's pair in a tiebreaker on the top court. The duo remains unbeaten this dual season with a perfect record of 5-0.
Illinois dominated the singles matches as well, winning all six opening sets. Schaefbauer continued her strong form with a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles, extending her personal winning streak to five matches. Kida Ferrari also contributed with a solid win at No. 6 singles, marking her fourth consecutive triumph.
Josie Frazier sealed the overall victory for Illinois by winning at No. 5 singles, maintaining her undefeated status in that slot for the dual season.
The match results were as follows: Illinois defeated Tulsa in both doubles and singles play without dropping any completed matches on courts four through six.
Following this success, Illinois faces Alabama in an ongoing contest where they currently trail after losing two out of three doubles matches.
