The Illinois swim and dive team achieved notable success on the second day of the Boilermaker Invite in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team is currently in third place with 377 points.
Junior Sydney Stoll set a new school record in the 100 butterfly finals with a time of 54.24 seconds. The 200 medley relay team, consisting of junior Suvana Baskar, freshman Kylee Sessions, junior Logan Kuehne, and senior Lily Olson, also broke a program record by finishing second with a time of 1:39.37.
Suvana Baskar broke her own school record in the 100 backstroke during the finals with a time of 53.66 seconds, earning her second place. She was also part of the relay team and improved to second place on the school's leaderboard for the 50 backstroke with a time of 25.02 seconds.
Logan Kuehne moved into ninth place on the program's all-time list for the 100 butterfly with her seventh-place finish at 55.39 seconds.
Several other Illini swimmers achieved personal bests during Friday's events. Freshman Kalina Nikolaeva placed 11th in the 400 IM finals with a new personal best time of 4:24.27 minutes. In addition to Baskar and McAndrew's performances in their respective categories, freshmen Martina Cibulkova and senior Laurel Bludgen recorded new bests in the 200 freestyle.
On the diving boards, junior Taylor Michael led Illinois divers by placing tenth in one-meter diving finals with a score of 246.45 points while freshman Elleka Boeres scored 234.15 points to secure an eleventh-place finish.
The Illinois swimming and diving team will return for more competition on November 18 for the final day of events at Purdue University’s invite.
