Director of Illinois track, field, and cross country Petros Kyprianou has announced the transfer of All-American Rafael Raap from Oregon. Raap, a sophomore, achieved his first-career All-America honors at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon with a score of 7,842 points.
Raap hails from Arnhem, Netherlands, and was named the 2024 Pac-12 Champion in the decathlon. He won this title before Oregon's transition to the Big Ten Conference for the 2024-25 season. His personal-best heptathlon score of 5,907 points would place him second in Illinois program history behind Aiden Ouimet's record of 6,120 points set at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last season. Additionally, Raap's personal-best decathlon score surpasses Ouimet's school record of 7,794 points set this season.
Raap is joining an already impressive combined events team that Kyprianou is building during this offseason. The team has also welcomed two other additions: All-American transfer Eliza Kraule from Rice University and top-ranked freshman JaiCieonna Gero-Holt.
