Illinois volleyball alum Jordyn Poulter has been named to the U.S. Women's Volleyball team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as announced by USA Volleyball. Poulter is one of 12 players selected for the Olympic roster.
The team includes eight Big Ten players. Among them are setter Poulter, libero Justine Wong-Orantes, opposites Annie Drews and Jordan Thompson, and middle blockers Chiaka Ogbogu and Haleigh Washington, who will compete in their second Olympics after winning gold in Tokyo. Jordan Larson will participate in her fourth Olympic Games, while Kelsey Robinson Cook will make her third appearance.
Poulter is the only Fighting Illini volleyball alum to be named to two Olympic rosters. She previously helped the U.S. win its first-ever gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alongside former Illini All-American Michelle Barsch-Hackley. Kirsten Gleis represented Holland at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, marking this as the fourth time a Fighting Illini alum has made an Olympic team.
At the last Summer Olympics, Poulter was named Best Setter following a victory over Brazil (25-21, 25-20, 25-14) that secured gold for Team USA. Despite an ankle injury during pool play, she led all setters with 247 assists throughout the games.
The U.S.'s gold medal at Tokyo was its sixth women's volleyball medal overall—adding to three silver medals (1984, 2008, 2012) and two bronze medals (1992, 2016).
During her college career at Illinois, Poulter was a three-time All-American and earned first-team accolades as a senior in 2018. She was also named Big Ten Co-Setter of the Year and AVCA Northeast Region Player of the Year that same year.
The women's indoor volleyball competition at Paris begins on July 27 and concludes on August 11 at South Paris Arena.
