Illinois outside linebacker Gabe Jacas has been recognized as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement by the conference office on Monday. In a notable performance, Jacas recorded 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble during Illinois' 21-7 victory over Michigan.
During the game, Jacas achieved personal bests in both tackles and sacks. His entire sack tally occurred in the fourth quarter, contributing significantly to Illinois limiting Michigan to its lowest point total in ten years.
Jacas' 2.5 sacks represent the highest number by any player in a Big Ten Conference game this season. This accomplishment places him tied for 12th nationally with a total of 5.5 sacks for the season.
The Illini are currently ranked #20 in this week's AP Top 25 poll and are set to face Oregon, ranked #1, on Saturday in Eugene.
