No. 5 Men's Gymnastics team secured victories against Simpson, Georgia United, and Florida Alliance at the 2024 EVO Elite Collegiate Open in Sarasota, Florida. Illinois achieved the highest score of the event with 416.150 points. Following them were Simpson with 366.100, Georgia United with 288.000, and Florida Atlantic securing a score of 201.950.

The Illinois team excelled in individual titles as well, with Connor McCool winning on floor, Brandon Dang on pommel horse, Ashton Anaya on still rings, Amari Sewell on vault, Will Hauke on parallel bars, and Ryan Vanichtheeranont on high bar.

Illinois also competed against the U.S. Senior National team whose athletes are contenders for Olympic opportunities. This included alum Alex Diab who scored 416.250 points; however, these scores did not count toward Illinois' official record or titles.

"Today was so much fun. It was an incredible opportunity competing against the U.S. National team and putting up our season high at the end of this five-week stint," said head coach Daniel Ribeiro. "Now we need a bit of rest and recovery before the second half of the season gets underway."

Anaya began the night strong on rings with a career-high score of 14.850 while Sebastian Ingersoll scored 13.900 and freshman Garrett Schooley took a 13.800.

Sewell led in vault scoring with a 14.850 followed by Michael Fletcher's score of 14.450.

On parallel bars, Hauke scored notably with a 14.000 while Fletcher followed closely behind at 13.800.

Vanichtheeranont topped the high bar category scoring a remarkable 14.250 with Tate Costa achieving a score of 13.900.

McCool led Illinois on floor exercises scoring an impressive 14.600 while Schooley earned a score of 13.900.

These achievements come ahead of their next competition at the Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky from February 23-25 where Costa, McCool, Dang and Vahe Petrosyan will compete for spots on the U.S National Team.
