Illinois holds sixth place after first day of Windon Memorial Classic

The Fighting Illini men's golf team, ranked fifth nationally, is in sixth place after the first day of competition at the Windon Memorial Classic held at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The tournament faced a suspension on Sunday evening due to darkness, leaving 2-5 holes remaining for completion in Round 2. Play is scheduled to resume Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. CT with the conclusion of Round 2, followed by the final round.

Sophomore Max Herendeen leads the team with an impressive performance, tying for third place at 4-under through 33 holes. After starting with a round of 73 (+2), Herendeen improved his standing by making seven birdies over his last 11 holes before play was halted.

Senior Jackson Buchanan and freshman Trey Marrion are tied for 19th place at 2-over par. Marrion has four holes left to complete in his second round while Buchanan has five remaining. Sophomore Ethan Wilson stands at 6-over in a tie for 45th place, and junior Ryan Voois is tied for 84th at +15, both with three holes left to finish their second rounds.

Competing as individuals are freshmen Jake Birdwell and Joseph Buttress. Birdwell is tied for 35th position at +5 through 32 holes, whereas Buttress ranks 88th at +20 with two holes left in his second round.
