Illinois head football coach Bret Bielema is set to be the guest conductor for the Chicago Cubs' seventh-inning stretch at Wrigley Field for the fourth year in a row. This event will take place on Tuesday, July 2, during Illini Night when the Cubs face off against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m. CT.
Howard Griffith, an all-time great running back from Illinois who set an NCAA record with eight rushing touchdowns in a game in 1990, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Griffith enjoyed an eight-year NFL career and won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos before becoming a football analyst on Big Ten Network.
Bielema and other special guests from Illinois will participate in a pregame party at Budweiser Brickhouse Tavern starting at 4 p.m. CT. The pregame event is open to all and does not require a game ticket for entry.
A special ticket offer for this game includes a co-branded Illini/Cubs hat. Part of the proceeds from these tickets will benefit the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Robert Archibald Student-Athlete Health and Wellness Fund. For group ticket purchases of 15 or more, contact Luke Levin at 773-404-4196 or via email at llevin@cubs.com.
