Illinois men's gymnastics finishes second at Big Ten Championships

The Fighting Illini Men's Gymnastics team secured second place at the Big Ten Championships, scoring 413.750 at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. The event took place on Friday evening.

Michigan claimed first place with a score of 418.100. Nebraska came third with 407.350, Ohio State fourth with 406.550, and Penn State fifth with 404.050.

The Illini's performance improved their season record to 16-3, adding one loss and three wins from this competition.

Notably, Illinois athletes set eight career highs during the championship: Ashton Anaya on still rings (15.050), Ethan Boder on still rings (13.950), Connor Micklos on parallel bars (13.650), Logan Myers on both still rings (14.150) and parallel bars (13.550), Preston Ngai on pommel horse (14.050) and vault (14.900), and Ryan Vanichtheeranont on still rings (13.200).

Additionally, Illinois achieved the second-highest vault score in program history with a 72.750, narrowly missing their previous record of 72.900 set against Michigan earlier this year.

In individual events:

- On still rings, Tate Costa contributed a score of 13.000 to push the team's total to 68.450.

- In vaulting, Amari Sewell scored a commendable 14.800 while Michael Fletcher earned a score of 14.400.

- For parallel bars, Illinois tallied a team score of 69.400 with Will Hauke scoring highest at 14.200.

- On high bar, despite some errors, Sebastian Ingersoll led with a score of 13.700.

- On floor exercise, Connor McCool achieved an impressive score of 14.150.

- Pommel horse saw Hauke tying for the highest individual score of the evening at 14.200.

The Individual Championships will follow tomorrow evening at the same venue where at least sixteen athletes from Illinois are expected to compete.
