Illinois men's gymnast Brandon Dang has been recognized with Big Ten Event Specialist and Freshman of the Week honors following his performance at the 2024 Winter Cup. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday.

Dang, a freshman from San Jose, California, who is majoring in Electrical Engineering, achieved a score of 14.850 on the pommel horse during Sunday's finals at the Winter Cup. This score was noted as the highest for that event.

This marks Dang's fourth time receiving the Freshman of the Week award and his second time being named Event Specialist of the Week. Previously, he earned these titles on February 5 and February 12, respectively.

The list of weekly honorees includes several other Illinois gymnasts: Garrett Schooley (January 15), Logan Myers (January 29), Will Hauke (January 29), Tate Costa (February 5), and Brandon Dang himself on multiple occasions throughout January and February.
