The Illinois men's gymnastics team, ranked fourth nationally, secured a victory over seventh-ranked Ohio State with a score of 413.200 to 406.350 at Huff Hall on Senior Day. Head coach Daniel Ribeiro expressed satisfaction with the team's performance following a recent defeat. "The guys did a phenomenal job responding tonight after a tough loss last weekend," Ribeiro said. He highlighted the importance of consistency and praised Tate Costa for his significant contributions.
Costa excelled by winning three titles, including floor and parallel bars, and claimed the all-around title with a career-high score of 81.750. The meet also celebrated six seniors: Ashton Anaya, Ethan Boder, Michael Fletcher, Sebastian Ingersoll, Evan Manivong, and Connor McCool.
In individual events, Costa achieved a career-high score of 14.400 on floor exercise while Anaya won still rings with 14.200. Amari Sewell led in vault with 14.850 points, and Ryan Vanichtheeranont took high bar honors scoring 14.100.
Freshman Brandon Dang impressed on pommel horse with a score of 14.400 while Logan Myers followed Anaya closely on still rings with 14.000 points.
Looking ahead, Illinois will compete against Penn State in their final regular season meet on March 23 at Rec Hall in University Park.
