Former Illini athletes show mixed results across NFL Week 1 games

Stats and performances of former Illinois players in the NFL were highlighted during Week 1 of the 2024 season. Isaiah Adams, an offensive lineman for the Arizona Cardinals, played four special teams snaps in their game against the Buffalo Bills, which ended in a 34-28 loss.

Tony Adams, a safety for the New York Jets, had a notable performance despite his team's 32-19 defeat by the San Francisco 49ers. He participated in all defensive plays and made significant contributions with "12 tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup."

Nick Allegretti started as left guard for the Washington Commanders in their 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was on the field for every offensive play and also contributed on special teams.

Running back Chase Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals recorded some stats in his team's narrow loss to the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, Tommy DeVito was not active for the New York Giants' game against Minnesota Vikings.

In Houston's victory over Indianapolis Colts, Kendrick Green participated in special teams snaps while Jake Hansen recorded a tackle. Nate Hobbs started at cornerback for Las Vegas Raiders and managed "four tackles and a pass breakup" despite their loss to Los Angeles Chargers.

Kerby Joseph had an impactful game with "six tackles, a pass breakup, and an interception" as Detroit Lions won against Los Angeles Rams. Ted Karras was involved throughout Cincinnati Bengals' offensive plays against New England Patriots.

Doug Kramer took part in Chicago Bears' win over Tennessee Titans by contributing on special teams. Vederian Lowe played both offensive and special teams snaps as New England Patriots defeated Cincinnati Bengals.

Quan Martin started at safety for Washington Commanders where he recorded nine tackles during their match against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kicker Chase McLaughlin scored three field goals including a noteworthy "56-yard field goal" helping Tampa Bay secure victory over Washington Commanders.

Jer'Zhan Newton did not participate in Washington's game while Alex Palczewski was involved on special teams during Denver Broncos’ encounter with Seattle Seahawks. Del'Shawn Phillips contributed to Houston Texans’ win with tackles made during special teams play.

Tip Reiman played multiple snaps but could not prevent Arizona Cardinals from losing to Buffalo Bills. Dawuane Smoot remained inactive during Buffalo’s win whereas Jihad Ward participated defensively as Minnesota Vikings triumphed over New York Giants.

Casey Washington was inactive when Atlanta Falcons faced Pittsburgh Steelers while Isaiah Williams did not play when Detroit Lions overcame Los Angeles Rams. Devon Witherspoon performed notably at cornerback recording seven tackles aiding Seattle Seahawks’ victory over Denver Broncos.

Sydney Brown remains listed under PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list for Philadelphia Eagles heading into this NFL season's first week matches.
