Nick Allegretti, a former player for the Illinois Fighting Illini, has achieved his third Super Bowl victory in just five years of his NFL career. Allegretti's team, the Kansas City Chiefs, triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 25-22 in overtime during Super Bowl LVIII held in Las Vegas.
Allegretti now holds the record for the most Super Bowl wins by any former Illini player. He surpassed several notable players including Jim Grabowski, Ray Nitschke, Preston Pearson, Howard Griffith, Eugene Wilson, Dave Diehl, and Ted Karras—all of whom have two Super Bowl rings each.
In this latest victory for Kansas City, Allegretti started at left guard. This marks his first start in a winning Super Bowl game. The match was also Allegretti's second time starting in a Super Bowl and his fourth playoff start overall. To date, he has participated in 16 playoff games throughout his career.
Since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2019, Allegretti has played in 74 regular season games. During his college years from 2014 to 2018 at Illinois, he was a four-year letterman and served as captain for three years.
