Illinois baseball faces off against Illinois State amid five-game winning streak

Illinois baseball is set to begin a four-game road trip with an in-state match against Illinois State at Duffy Bass Field. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+ and the Busey Bank Illini Sports Network.

The Fighting Illini recently completed a series sweep over Penn State, extending their winning streak to five games. LHP Sam Reed, who holds a 1-1 record with an ERA of 11.49, is expected to start for Illinois.

Illinois leads the all-time series against Illinois State with a record of 58-35, including a recent victory of 16-5 in April 2023. The Illini have won 11 out of the last 14 encounters since 2015.

Illinois State comes into this game after sweeping Missouri State in their latest series. INF Luke Cheng leads their batting lineup with a .373 average, while RHP Tanner Perry has been notable on the mound with a record of 3-3 and an ERA of 5.06.

In their recent Big Ten matchup against Penn State, Illinois showed strong offensive performance by scoring double-digit runs in each game. Jacob Schroeder was named Big Ten Player of the Week following his impressive contributions during this series.

The Illini are set to continue their Big Ten schedule with an upcoming weekend series at Minnesota starting Friday.
