The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams are set to finish their regular season with the Fighting Illini Tune-Up at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois, on Saturday, May 4. Field events will commence at 11:30 a.m., with running events scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Seniors will be honored at 1:30 p.m.
Twelve seniors will be recognized during the event: Tyler Cushing, Anthony Maida, Aiden Ouimet, Will Rezny, Jack Roberts, Tyler Sudduth, Robert Williams, Taylor Beard, Jessica McDowell, Kelsey Rothas, Breena Shreeves, and Amber Simpson.
Amber Simpson stands out among the seniors with her Big Ten- and school-record hammer throw of 70.21 meters (230-4), achieved at the Gary Wieneke Memorial on April 13. This mark is just short of being the leading national mark for the outdoor season.
Tyler Sudduth recorded the program's second-best shot put distance of 19.85 meters (65-1 1/2) and seventh-best hammer throw of 60.90 meters (185-8) at the same meet. His shot put ranks seventh nationally for this year.
Aiden Ouimet surpassed his own school record in the decathlon with a score of 7,794 points during his first appearance this season at the Mt. SAC Relays. This performance ranks him seventh nationally.
Jessica McDowell ran the program's third-fastest and nation's eleventh-fastest 400-meter dash at the Florida Relays with a time of 51.41 seconds. She also contributed to the program's second-fastest 4x100-meter relay team that clocked in at 43.78 seconds during the Mt. SAC Relays.
Other notable performances include Jack Roberts' fifth-place finish in the program's history for the 5000-meter run with a time of 13:55.89; Will Rezny's seventh-place shot put distance of 18.32 meters (60-1 1/4); and Taylor Beard's tenth-place high jump height of 1.77 meters (5-9 3/4).
In total for this outdoor season, there has been one Big Ten record broken, four school records set, and forty-two top-ten program marks achieved.
