Illinois women's gymnastics concluded their season by finishing third in the second round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regionals. The team scored 196.750 at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Thursday night.
The top spot went to No. 1 Oklahoma with a score of 198.050, followed by No. 17 Ohio State with 196.975. NC State came in fourth with a score of 195.950.
Both Oklahoma and Ohio State will advance to the third round scheduled for Saturday, April 6, at the Crisler Center.
Head coach Nadalie Walsh expressed pride in her team's performance: "This team put it ALL out there," she said. "They competed like champs, stuck together, had incredible team chemistry and made themselves extremely relevant tonight."
Walsh acknowledged that despite their efforts falling short in the final rotation, it was not due to a lack of energy: "Our six seniors have built a huge foundation and legacy for the program to keep building upon."
Mia Takekawa distinguished herself by placing second overall on bars with a score of 9.950 and may qualify individually for NCAA Nationals pending official announcements after Saturday's third round.
In event specifics, Illinois scored as follows: Bars - combined team score of 49.225; Beam - combined team score of 49.250; Floor - combined team score of 49.200; Vault - combined team score of 49.075.
The Illini finished their season with an overall record of 10-6 and a conference record of 4-5.
