The Illinois football team has secured the #22 spot in this week's AP Top 25 rankings and is placed at #21 in the Coaches Poll. The Fighting Illini have achieved a strong start with a 5-1 record and have maintained their ranking for five consecutive weeks.
This Saturday, Illinois will face off against Michigan, ranked #24, in a highly anticipated matchup. This game marks the first time since 2000 that Memorial Stadium will host an AP Top 25 ranked versus ranked game. Notably, it is also the 24th such matchup to take place in the stadium's history as it celebrates its centennial anniversary this weekend.
The upcoming game against Michigan holds historical significance as it occurs nearly exactly 100 years after Red Grange's memorable performance during the Memorial Stadium Dedication Game. On October 18, 1924, Grange made national headlines by scoring four touchdowns within the first twelve minutes against Michigan's then-undefeated team.
In light of these events, Illinois has organized detailed plans for a Rededication weekend from Thursday, October 17 to Saturday, October 19.
The clash between #22 Illinois and #24 Michigan is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on CBS.
