Illinois Athletics Hall of Famer Robert Holcombe will take on the role of honorary captain for the #23 Illinois football team as they face Purdue this Saturday. The game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on FS1.
Holcombe, who played for Illinois from 1994 to 1997, concluded his college career as the all-time leading rusher for the Illini with 4,105 yards and holds a school record with sixteen 100-yard rushing games. He went on to have a seven-year career in the NFL, including winning a Super Bowl title in 1999 with the St. Louis Rams.
This weekend marks Holcombe's return to campus for his induction into the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place Friday at 7 p.m. CT at State Farm Center and is open to the public through its west entrance.
