Illinois volleyball secured a victory over Indiana in straight sets at Huff Hall on Wednesday night. The win improved the Fighting Illini's record to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Hoosiers fell to 9-8 this year and 2-5 in the Big Ten.
Raina Terry delivered her fifth double-double of the season, achieving a match-high of 16 kills along with 10 digs. She also recorded a season-best five blocks, marking her third consecutive match with at least four blocks. Averie Hernandez contributed 12 kills, six digs, and one block. Brooke Mosher set a new personal best for three-set matches with 35 assists. Christina Martinez Mundo added 10 digs on defense, while Terry and Cari Bohm each posted five blocks.
In the first set, Illinois started strong with an early lead and maintained control despite Indiana's efforts to close the gap. The Illini won the set 25-19 after a kill by Ashlyn Philpot. The second set saw back-and-forth action, but Illinois emerged victorious at 25-22 following an ace from Martinez Mundo and a decisive tip from Terry.
The final set was competitive as both teams traded points until Illinois took control again with a series of plays that led to their eventual win at 25-21, completing the sweep.
The Fighting Illini will next face Maryland on Sunday at 1 p.m., broadcasted on B1G+. Notably, Raina Terry led her team in kills for the fourteenth time this season, and Chris Tamas has an all-time record of 11-2 against Indiana. Attendance for the match was reported at 2,662.
