Illinois volleyball team secured a victory against Michigan in a Big Ten match held at Crisler Center on Friday night. The Fighting Illini improved their season record to 10-5 with a 2-3 mark in the conference, while Michigan's record fell to 13-3, including a 3-2 league standing.
The Orange and Blue team hit .305 with 41 kills, adding 36 assists and 13 blocks during the match. Raina Terry led Illinois with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .364. Ashlyn Philpot contributed six blocks, and Christina Martinez Mundo recorded 11 digs.
In the first set, Illinois overcame an early deficit after trailing 13-11 by launching a four-point run led by Terry’s service line efforts. They eventually took control of the frame, winning it 25-19. The second set saw Michigan leading initially but Illinois rallied back from a six-point deficit to tie at 21 and then won the set with a final score of 25-22.
The third set started with Illinois taking an early lead of 6-1 before Michigan tied it at 11. However, Illinois managed to regain momentum with another strong performance from Terry, who scored her 16th kill leading up to match point. Laynie Smith closed out the set and secured the sweep for Illinois with a score of 25-20.
Next, Illinois will face Michigan State on Saturday at East Lansing. The game is scheduled for broadcast on Big Ten Network at 3 p.m. CT.
