State Senator Chapin Rose | Illinois General Assembly
AFSCME members employed in state prisons organized informational pickets across Illinois to highlight safety concerns for correctional staff and inmates at various IDOC facilities. State Senator Chapin Rose, representing Mahomet, issued a statement addressing the incidents of exposure and attacks on guards and other correctional staff. He emphasized the urgent need for measures to protect Illinois' correctional officers and staff.
"The Pritzker Administration must stop stonewalling and start addressing the serious concerns of employees and their families working in our state's correctional facilities," stated Senator Rose. "It is time for the uncontrolled drug smuggling and assaults on staff and inmates to end. Violence and hazardous substances are a threat to everyone in our state's correctional facilities."
Senator Rose, drawing from his experience as a former prosecutor, expressed solidarity with those managing challenging populations within these facilities. "As a former prosecutor, I stand with the brave men and women who are tasked each day with the challenge of managing some of the most dangerous populations in the world. They deserve better than this from the Pritzker Administration."
