National 4-H Week 2023 is set to commence on October 1, marking a celebration for the nation's largest youth development organization. Originating in Illinois in 1915 with the Union Pig Club in Macoupin County, 4-H now celebrates over a century of fostering youth development and its enduring influence on millions who are now alumni.

The Illinois 4-H Alumni Association, established in 2016, aims to build a statewide community of alumni by enhancing engagement opportunities. The association seeks leaders for a new advisory committee to represent diverse alumni, enhance engagement, acknowledge achievements, and support strategic goals.

"The Illinois 4-H Alumni Advisory Committee will be comprised of nine regional directors, three young alumni directors, two student ambassador representatives, one Collegiate 4-H ambassador, and a liaison to the 4-H Alumni Staff Advisory committee," said Tina Veal, University of Illinois Extension's manager for alumni and constituent engagement. "We look forward to engaging 4-H alumni to continue to create a lifelong connection and to support the next generation of leaders."

Those interested in joining the advisory committee can find more information and download nomination forms at go.illinois.edu/il4halumniadvisory. Applications must be submitted electronically by November 15, 2023, including a resume and two recommendation letters. The advisory committee is expected to launch in Spring 2024.

The association continues efforts to connect with "Illinois 4-H Grown" alumni through go.illinois.edu/4halum where they can share their experiences with the program.

For further details on joining either the main organization or the alumni association, individuals can contact their local Extension office or reach out directly to Tina Veal at vealt@illinois.edu.
