Fighting Illini conclude ITA All-American Championships with six singles wins

The Fighting Illini concluded their participation in the ITA All-American Championships on Friday, achieving six singles wins through the efforts of Gabrielius Guzauskas, Kenta Miyoshi, and William Mroz. The event took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

William Mroz secured four of Illinois' six victories, progressing from pre-qualifying to the final round of qualifying play. His campaign began with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Auburn's William Nolan on Saturday. He then defeated his first seeded opponent, Nate Bonetto of Georgia Tech, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

Mroz advanced to the singles qualifying bracket by defeating Duke's Oscar Brown with a score of 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Gabrielius Guzauskas lost his opening match to Washington's Soham Purohit but later won a consolation match against Duke's Teddy Truwit with a score of 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday.

On Monday, Mroz achieved his first ranked win of the season by overcoming No. 51 Wissam Abderrahman of Clemson in three sets: 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-1. However, his run ended in the final round of qualifying after losing to Michigan State's Max Sheldon in three sets on Tuesday.

Kenta Miyoshi earned a spot in the main draw but fell to Colton Smith of Arizona in three sets on Wednesday. He moved into the consolation bracket and managed a comeback victory over Kentucky's Charlelie Cosnet on Thursday after losing the first set. Miyoshi eventually lost to Ryan Colby of Georgia on Friday.
