Illinois soccer extended its unbeaten start to the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Illinois State at Demirjian Park. The win brings Illinois' record to 3-0-1, while Illinois State falls to 1-1-1.
Sarah Foley, Kennedy Berschel, Regan Moody, and Angie Galo each scored for the Illini, while the defense limited the Redbirds to just one shot on goal out of three total shots. Goalkeeper Izzy Lee secured her second clean sheet of the season.
The scoring began quickly as Foley netted a volley from distance just 31 seconds into the match, marking her second goal of the season. Berschel added another in the seventh minute with a left-footed strike that sailed over the Redbird keeper's reach.
In the 37th minute, Lindsey DuSatko's run down the right wing set up Moody for a header inside the six-yard box, giving Illinois a 3-0 lead at halftime. The Illini held a dominant 9-2 advantage in shots during the first half.
Galo scored her first career goal in the 68th minute off a free kick delivered by Berschel, becoming Illinois' tenth different goalscorer this season. Despite further opportunities, including close-range attempts by Moody and Claire Murray, and long-range efforts from Murray and Emma Yee, Illinois could not add to their tally.
The match concluded with Illinois holding a decisive 20-3 edge in shots and an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Fighting Illini will conclude their five-match homestand against Kentucky on Saturday at Demirjian Park with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
