CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Women's Basketball Head Coach Shauna Green was recognized as the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois' 2024 Woman of Distinction Thursday night. Green was honored during the Diamonds, Desserts & Distinction event hosted at Champaign's CityView Banquet & Meeting Center.
"She epitomizes courage, confidence and character for Girl Scouts to aspire toward as leaders," the organization said in announcing its selection.
The Diamonds, Desserts & Distinction event is the Girl Scouts' signature fundraiser within the greater Champaign area. The 2024 gathering marks the eighth year of the current event and the 32nd in honoring Women of Distinction.
In two historic years, Green has led the Illini to back-to-back winning seasons and postseason appearances; two AP Top-15 upsets; and the program's first championship. She epitomizes courage, confidence, and character for Girl Scouts to aspire toward as leaders.
Green marks the 148th woman to be honored in the program's 32-year history. She joins Fighting Illini Soccer Head Coach Janet Rayfield as current Illinois coaches to be recognized.
