Seventeen members of the 2024 Fighting Illini women's gymnastics team have been named Academic All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), as announced on Wednesday. To qualify for this distinction, student-athletes must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Across the nation, 1,174 women's gymnasts from 63 collegiate programs received this honor, marking the highest number recorded since WCGA began collecting data in 2008. This year, Illinois ranked 28th nationally for team GPA with an average of 3.6782 and placed 10th overall for the percentage of team members earning Academic All-American status at 85.71%.
Three athletes—Kaitlyn Ewald, Amelia Knight, and Mia Takekawa—achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2023-2024 academic year.
