The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation introduced by Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) aimed at protecting girls' sports by blocking the Biden administration's Title IX rule. This rule permits men to enter women and girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms. Representative Miller issued a statement following the passage:
"Today is a great day for our daughters and granddaughters, who deserve protection from Joe Biden’s radical attempt to force men into their private spaces and athletics. Title IX guarantees equal opportunities for girls in education and sports, but Joe Biden is putting our girls at risk by erasing their Title IX protections and claiming biological men should have access to girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms. Parents are horrified that Joe Biden is ignoring parental rights and forcing his leftwing agenda into our local schools.
"I’m proud to have my bill, which blocks Joe Biden’s Title IX rewrite, pass the House, and I urge the Senate to vote on this legislation quickly to protect our daughters from Biden’s dangerous agenda."
Miller’s bill, H.J. Res 165, is a Congressional Review Act resolution that provides congressional disapproval for the new Title IX rule issued by the Department of Education under President Biden. The bill was co-sponsored by 72 House Republicans and passed with a vote of 210 to 205. The legislation now moves to the Senate, which holds a Democratic majority. The Senate version of the bill, S.J. Res. 96, is sponsored by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) with support from 34 Senate co-sponsors.
