Champaign, Illinois - In response to recent fires in the area, the Champaign Fire Department took proactive measures by canvassing two neighborhoods to ensure the safety of residents. The firefighters tested smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, as well as installed new alarms in homes that required them.

The Fire Department's initiative took place on Thursday, April 18, where they visited the 1300 block of Joanne Ln. and the 4800 block of W. Windsor Rd. During the visits, firefighters went door-to-door, verifying the functionality of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the homes. Additionally, they shared crucial fire safety information with the residents to enhance their awareness and preparedness.

According to the Fire Department, nearly 30 homes were provided with essential safety information, and a total of 30 smoke alarms and 10 combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms were successfully installed. This proactive approach aimed to not only ensure the immediate safety of residents but also to prevent potential fire incidents in the future.

This community outreach effort highlights the commitment of the Champaign Fire Department to prioritize the safety and well-being of the residents in the neighborhoods affected by recent fires. By engaging directly with the community and providing vital safety resources, the Fire Department continues its mission to protect and serve the citizens of Champaign.

The Fire Department's swift action and thorough safety checks serve as a reminder of the importance of fire prevention and preparedness in safeguarding homes and families. Residents are encouraged to regularly test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and stay informed about fire safety practices to create a secure living environment for themselves and their loved ones.
