The Champaign Department of Equity and Engagement, together with Public Works, has provided assistance to the local DMV office as it undergoes remodeling. The DMV brought in a mobile Secretary of State unit to maintain service for residents during the renovation period.
Due to limited space and the need for secure overnight storage, the DMV asked for help from city departments. From July 28 through August 2, the Equity and Engagement team and Public Works arranged secured overnight storage for the mobile unit at the Public Works garage. This arrangement required coordination among the regional manager, the local DMV site lead, and staff from the Secretary of State’s office in Springfield.
City officials described this as an example of effective collaboration between different departments and agencies to address a community need in a timely manner.
