The Countywide Residential Electronics Collection (CREC) event is scheduled to take place on May 18, 2024, at Parkland College in Champaign County. Residents of various communities in the county are encouraged to participate by registering online in advance.
According to the organizers, residents must secure a 15-minute time slot between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. by visiting the registration website at https://ecycle.simplybook.me/. Upon successful registration, participants will receive confirmation via email and/or text message. Additionally, a postcard will be sent out as a "ticket" to the event, arriving 10-14 days before May 18.
This year, the CREC event is open to residents from multiple communities including Bondville, Broadlands, Champaign, Fisher, Gifford, Homer, Ivesdale, Longview, Ludlow, Mahomet, Ogden, Pesotum, Rantoul, Royal, Sadorus, Savoy, Sidney, St. Joseph, Thomasboro, Tolono, Urbana, and unincorporated Champaign County.
The guidelines for the event specify limits on items, with a maximum of four (4) TVs and a total of seven (7) items per household. Those who have completed registration are advised to use the Duncan Road entrance at Parkland College to access the event.
The CREC event is made possible through the collaboration of various entities including the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Champaign County, Champaign County Court & Probation Services, and Village of Savoy, with financial backing from each participating community. Regardless of weather conditions, the event will proceed as planned, although severe weather may slightly increase wait times.
Online registration will continue until all time slots are filled, but as of now, there are still spots available for interested residents. For assistance with registration, individuals can contact 217-403-4780 or email [email protected].
