The City of Champaign has announced that Engineering & Research International, Inc. (ERI) will conduct a series of soil borings on Neil Street between Edgebrook Drive and Washington Street. This process will involve intermittent lane closures along the specified route, with work commencing on Monday, April 15, 2024, and expected to last for approximately 10 working days, weather permitting.
The soil borings are a crucial part of the preliminary design phase for the North Neil Street Corridor Plan. These closures are necessary to facilitate the completion of this essential project for the city.
According to the announcement, the closures will start at the south end of the limits in the right lane and progress north along the corridor. The City advises that the schedule is subject to weather conditions and may be adjusted in case of inclement weather.
Residents and commuters in the area are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly during this period to accommodate the intermittent lane closures. The City of Champaign appreciates the public's cooperation and understanding as these soil borings are conducted to further the North Neil Street Corridor Plan.
Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of the lane closures and soil borings on Neil Street as part of the city's ongoing infrastructure development efforts.
