The South Downtown Sanitary Sewer Project in Champaign will necessitate the closure of several streets and intersections to allow for the ongoing work. Stark Excavating will oversee the project, which is set to commence on March 22, 2024.

According to the project details, the White Street/Neil Street intersection will be closed from March 22 onwards until the completion of the project. Additionally, Marshall Street between Neil Street and Market Street, Willow Street between Walnut Street and Market Street, and Market Street between Marshall Street and south of Willow Street will also be affected by closures starting on the same date.

"White Street at Neil Street will remain closed through project completion, which is expected to end late spring/early summer. All other closures are anticipated to last several weeks," stated the announcement.

During the closures, on-street parking will not be allowed on White Street, Willow Street, and the portion of Market Street between Marshall Street and Willow Street. The schedule for the work is dependent on the weather conditions, and potential delays may occur in case of inclement weather. Additional lane and road closures may be announced as the project progresses.

While the construction is ongoing, businesses in the area will continue to operate, although patrons may need to find alternate routes due to the closures.

The South Downtown Sanitary Sewer Project aims to enhance the sanitary sewer system in the area and improve infrastructure for the community. Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about the project phases and any updates regarding street closures.
