Shooting Incident in Champaign Prompts Ongoing Investigation

Champaign Police were dispatched at 7:34 p.m. on March 18, 2024, to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Avenue for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found a 46-year-old Champaign man in medical distress, who was later determined to have been shot. The man was treated and released, as reported by the Champaign Police Department.

According to the police, the victim was entering an apartment building when he was approached by three unknown subjects who opened fire and then fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with officers actively seeking witnesses and surveillance footage to aid in the case. The suspects remain at large as of now.

In a public appeal for assistance, the Champaign Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 217-351-4545. Additionally, individuals can provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers via phone at 217-373-8477 (TIPS), online at 373tips.com, or using the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information leading to arrests, with $5,000 for homicide cases, $2,500 for felony crimes involving firearms, and up to $1,000 for other crimes. The anonymity of tipsters is assured, with calls being handled by a third-party call center and not recorded.

The authorities urge residents and businesses in the area with surveillance cameras to come forward with any potentially relevant footage. The police department reassures the community that all information received will be treated with confidentiality as they work towards resolving the case.
