The City of Champaign's Legal Department recently held a presentation at the University of Illinois College of Law, aimed at educating students about careers in local government law. The presentation, which took place on January 29, 2024, was led by City Law Clerks Chloe Porath, Morgan Knight, and Bobby Mannis, along with Deputy City Attorney Jennifer Bannon.

The purpose of the presentation was to provide students with insights into the field of municipal law and to encourage them to consider applying for law clerk positions with the City of Champaign Legal Department. These positions are available for the upcoming Summer 2024 and the 2024-2025 school year.

As a result of the presentation, the Legal Department received a commendable number of applications from interested students. Law clerks play a crucial role in the department, undertaking tasks such as legal research, drafting legal memoranda and pleadings, and even appearing in court under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Their contributions are invaluable in providing support to Legal Department attorneys as they advise City departments and defend the City in legal proceedings.

In a statement, the City of Champaign expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of the presentation, stating, "We are pleased to have had the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with the students at the University of Illinois College of Law. The response we received in terms of applications was exceptional, and we look forward to reviewing them and selecting the best candidates for the law clerk positions."

The presentation at the University of Illinois College of Law serves as a testament to the commitment of the City of Champaign's Legal Department to fostering the next generation of legal professionals. By providing students with valuable insights and encouraging them to pursue careers in local government law, the department is actively contributing to the growth and development of the legal community.

As the application review process begins, the City of Champaign is excited about the prospect of welcoming new law clerks who will contribute their skills and knowledge to the Legal Department's important work.
