According to reports, the fire originated in the bathroom of the single-family home. An occupant of the residence alerted the firefighters, who arrived on the scene to find moderate smoke emanating from the rear of the house. Fortunately, the firefighters were able to deploy a single hose line and prevent the flames from spreading beyond the bathroom.

At present, the cause of the fire remains unknown as investigators continue their examination of the scene. No injuries were reported among the firefighters or occupants of the house.

In light of this incident, the Champaign Fire Department would like to remind everyone about the importance of maintaining a working smoke alarm in their homes.
