Shooting Investigation Underway in Champaign

Champaign Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on December 31, 2023, in the 2400 block of N. Neil Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered that a 24-year-old woman from Rockford, Illinois, had arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim is currently in stable condition.

According to the initial investigation, the victim was seated in her vehicle when she heard multiple shots fired in the area. The gunfire struck a building and the victim's vehicle, causing injury to her leg. The suspect fled the scene and has not been apprehended at this time.

The Champaign Police Department is actively investigating the incident and is seeking assistance from the community. Officers are canvassing the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may aid in the investigation. Residents or businesses with exterior surveillance camera systems are encouraged to contact the police department.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. The police department will provide updates as they become available.
