On December 14, 2023, the Equity and Engagement Department, in collaboration with the Campus Community Compact, organized a small business networking event at Neil Street Blues. This event aimed to provide opportunities for small business owners to enhance their businesses and establish connections with other local enterprises. The event, which was the first in a series, focused on supporting small, local, MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) and WBE (Women Business Enterprise) entrepreneurs and contractors.
The event saw a diverse range of attendees, including city staff, Compact partners, representatives from other Central Illinois municipalities, banking partners, and local contractors who have conducted significant business with the City. Many of these attendees were interested in finding potential sub-contracting partners. The event attracted more than 40 registered community members, with over 50 additional individuals joining on the day itself.
The networking event proved to be a resounding success, providing community members with a platform to forge new relationships, enhance their business capacities, and receive support. The occasion was an opportunity for entrepreneurs to share their experiences and learn from one another. It also allowed them to establish connections with potential collaborators or subcontractors.
The Equity and Engagement Department expressed their satisfaction with the event, highlighting its significance in promoting economic growth and fostering a supportive business environment. They emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to provide ongoing support for local entrepreneurs and contractors.
"We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive response from the community," said a representative from the Equity and Engagement Department. "Events like these are crucial in creating a thriving business ecosystem and empowering local entrepreneurs. We look forward to hosting more networking events in the future."
The small business networking event at Neil Street Blues showcased the commitment of the Equity and Engagement Department and the Campus Community Compact to support the growth and development of small businesses in the area. By providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the event played a vital role in fostering entrepreneurship and strengthening the local economy.
As the series of small business networking events continues, it is expected that more entrepreneurs and contractors will benefit from the opportunities for growth and connection that these events provide. The event serves as a testament to the city's dedication to fostering a vibrant small business community and promoting economic prosperity for all.
