The City of Champaign is seeking public input on priority bicycle projects as part of its ongoing efforts to create safe streets for all residents. The city has been actively adding new bicycle lanes to street construction projects throughout the community, and now it wants to hear from the public about which projects should take priority.

To facilitate this process, the City of Champaign has developed a new prioritization process and created a list of proposed bike projects. Residents can download this list or explore an interactive webmap on Engage Champaign, which shows the locations of the projects and their selection criteria.

Over the next two months, residents are encouraged to visit Engage Champaign and complete a short, four-question survey to share their thoughts on the priority bike projects in different parts of Champaign. By visiting the website, residents can also learn more about each project, the prioritization process, and explore the engaging webmap.

The implementation of these bike projects is part of a larger infrastructure plan that aims to create a more complete network of bicycle lanes, paths, and make modifications to existing infrastructure. The City of Champaign has already completed many projects in recent years, and this ongoing work will continue to improve the safety and accessibility of the streets for all types of transportation needs.

Engage Champaign also offers a Question-and-Answer section where residents can find answers to general questions about the projects. Additionally, the website provides contact information for project leaders for more direct inquiries.

This initiative is part of the 2008 Transportation Master Plan: Champaign Moving Forward. The City's Plan Commission will discuss the Bicycle Implementation Plan as an element of the Transportation Master Plan in early 2024.

The City of Champaign is committed to including the community in the decision-making process when it comes to prioritizing bicycle projects. By seeking public input through Engage Champaign, the city hopes to ensure that the projects reflect the needs and desires of the residents.

Residents are encouraged to visit engagechampaign.org to learn more about the projects, explore the interactive webmap, and complete the survey to have their voices heard. Together, we can create safer and more bike-friendly streets for everyone in Champaign.
